What is the adoption process like for step-parents?

Ohio recognizes several forms of adoption. One of those is called a step-parent adoption. If you have married and your spouse has a child from a prior relationship, and you’ve been asking each other, whether it’s a good idea for you to adopt that child, you need to understand that there are legal requirements before that can happen, one of which is the consent of the other parents or, if necessary, proving that that parent’s consent is not necessary. All of this is governed by Ohio law.

It is extremely important that you sit down and speak with an experienced adoption attorney before going down this road.
