Grandparents rights and custody in Ohio

If you have found yourself in a position where you are taking care of your grandchild, or if you were taking care of your grandchild, but have been cut off from contact by the child’s parent, you may need to seek enforcement of certain legal rights that are recognized in Ohio called Grandparents Rights. At minimum, you are entitled by law to apply for companionship time with your grandchild in serious situations.

It can also be appropriate to seek custody of your grandchild before going down any of these paths. It is very important that you speak with an experienced family law attorney who can explain to you the legal requirements and the time that will be involved in that kind of a court.
