Advanced directives are another term for power of attorney documents. A power of attorney is a legal document, kind of like a contract that names a person or a succession of persons who are going to act on your behalf if you are unable to make decisions for yourself. Generally, advanced directives refers to a healthcare power of attorney, which in Ohio is naming an agent and giving that agent instructions on what kind of medical decisions they can make for you.
